Tri-Foil Clamps is essential for Single core cable
Tri-Foil Clamps are used for high voltage single core cables where the current rating is high and 3 core cables are not available. The Tri-Foil Clamp are used for laying single core cables in Trefoil touching formation which helps to maintain magnetic symmetry thereby avoiding electro magnetic heating and loss of current. It does nullify the induced magnetic field of high voltage power cable.
The Tri-Foil Clamp are Protection of power and control cable from the lightning discharges and Establishment of easy cable circulation paths.
Voltages are induced in the sheath of cables running in parallel which result in circulating currents flowing in the sheaths. The distances between single core cables running in parallel determine the voltages induced. With single core cables in trefoil formation (touching each other) the distances between the cables are minimum and thus the voltages induced are minimized and hence the circulating currents. The circulating currents cause localized heating.
Application
Tri-Foil Clamps are suitable for supporting Single Core PVC/ HRPVC, XLPE, XLPE Insulated Aluminum, Un- Armoured, Earth And Un Earth Power Cables from 1.1 Kv to 132 KV Grade. 3 Phase A.C. Circuits in trefoil formation in Generation Stations, Sub-Stations, Thermal Power Stations, Switchgear Plants etc. These can be used for indoor or outdoor for vertical or horizontal running cables inside trenches or on racks
Versatile Cable Management SolutionTrefoil clamps are engineered for industrial environments, ensuring support and longevity for power cables arranged in trefoil formation. Their adaptable mounting options (single or double holes) make them suitable for a wide range of cable tray configurations. The natural, anodized, or galvanized finishes provide enhanced durability, while the use of stainless steel bolts (A2-70/A4-70) delivers long-term reliability in challenging environments.
Robust Construction for Demanding ApplicationsManufactured from durable metals such as aluminium, stainless steel, or galvanized iron, these clamps boast high tensile strength and density (2.7 g/cm3). They deliver consistent performance from -40C to +100C, making them well-suited for both indoor and outdoor installations. Designed in compliance with IEC 61914 and IS 5553 standard requirements, they resist corrosion and UV degradation, ensuring longevity in adverse weather.
Safe, Compliant, and Fire RetardantSafety is paramount in cable installations, and trefoil clamps meet stringent fire-retardant requirements. Their high dielectric strength ensures safe use with both HV and LV cable types, reducing electrical hazards. Fire retardancy is provided as per prevailing cable tray standards, making these clamps a preferred choice in critical industrial and electrical infrastructure projects.
FAQ's of Trefoil Clamps:
Q: How do trefoil clamps enhance the safety and longevity of power cable installations?
A: Trefoil clamps firmly secure power cables in a trefoil formation, preventing cable movement due to short circuit forces or vibrations. This stabilization limits cable wear and tear, enhances system safety, and prolongs cable lifespan. Their high tensile strength and fire retardant properties further contribute to reliable and hazard-free cable management.
Q: What cable sizes are suitable for trefoil clamps, and how do I select the appropriate size?
A: Trefoil clamps are suitable for cable sizes ranging from 35 sq.mm to 630 sq.mm, with inner diameters typically from 35mm to 75mm depending on the model. To select the right clamp, measure your cable diameter and refer to the manufacturer's sizing guide to match your cable's specifications.
Q: When and where should trefoil clamps be installed for optimal performance?
A: Install trefoil clamps at regular intervals along cable runs where mechanical support and electrical safety are critical, such as substations, power plants, industrial facilities, and other high-load environments. Their robust construction ensures consistent performance both indoors and outdoors, even in harsh weather conditions.
Q: What materials and finishes are available for these clamps, and how do they benefit different environments?
A: These clamps are manufactured from aluminium (grade 6063), stainless steel (SS304/SS316), or galvanized iron, and finished in natural, anodized, or hot dip galvanized coatings. These options offer high corrosion resistance and UV stability, making them well-suited for corrosive, outdoor, or coastal sites as well as indoor installations.
Q: How does the installation process work for trefoil clamps?
A: Installation is straightforward: clamps are mounted using single or double bolt holes, depending on tray design, with stainless steel bolts (A2-70 or A4-70) ensuring secure attachment. Once aligned with the cables in trefoil formation, the clamp is tightened to hold cables firmly without damaging insulation.
Q: What are the key standards met by trefoil clamps, and why are they important?
A: Trefoil clamps comply with IEC 61914 and IS 5553 standards, ensuring they deliver required mechanical, thermal, and flame-retardant properties for industrial and utility cable management. Compliance guarantees consistent safety performance and regulatory acceptance in electrical installations.
